Release of the new version (3XMM-DR5) of the XMM-Newton Serendipitious source catalogue:

The first incremental release of the 3XMM catalogue, 3XMM-DR5, was made public in April 2015 (Rosen et al., 2015; http://arxiv.org/abs/1504.07051).  3XMM-DR5, which supersedes the previous release, 3XMM-DR4, contains 565962 detections arising from 396910 unique sources drawn from 7781 XMM observations.  The incremental catalogue covers around 880 square degrees of sky, taking account of overlaps between observations.

Around 10% of the detections in 3XMM-DR5 are classified as extended, and spectra and time series have been extracted for around 24% of the sources. The positional uncertainty of the catalogue detections is generally <5 arcseconds (90% confidence). Typical sensitivities in the catalogue are ~6x10E-15 and ~1.5x10E-14 (ergs/cm2/s) in the soft (0.2-2 keV) and hard (2-12 keV) X-ray band, respectively. The creation of the 3XMM catalogue is a joint venture carried out by the XMM Survey Science Centre  (SSC) on behalf of ESA. Details of the catalogue, the catalogue files and documentation on 3XMM-DR5, are available at:

http://xmmssc.irap.omp.eu/Catalogue/3XMM-DR5/3XMM_DR5.html

FITS files containing summary information about the observations used in the 3XMM-DR5 catalogue are provided. FITS and CSV versions of the full catalogue and a slimline version of the FITS file are also available for download at http://xmm.esac.esa.int/xsa/. The slimline version has only one row per unique source (rather than per detection as in the main catalogue) and a reduced number of columns that essentially pertain to the unique source quantities.

Alongside the XMM SSC and the XSA user interfaces, 3XMM-DR5 is also available through:

The 3XMM-DR5 catalogue is at the basis of the ARCHES project.
